Jane Austen in the Midlands
Dudley Libraries are celebrating Jane Austen’s 250th anniversary with four talks about the famous novelist and her links with the area.
Delivered by Jack Barber from the Jane Austen Society, the events will take place at Stourbridge Library on Monday 19 May from 2-4pm, Dudley Library on Thursday 10 July from 7-9pm, Halesowen Library on Thursday 4 September from 1030am-1230pm and Kingswinford Library on Monday 15 September from 11am-1pm.
Each session will cover Jane Austen’s life, her visits to the Midlands and the influence those visits may have had on her writing.
“We’re delighted to be marking 250 years since Jane’s birth with this series of talks,” said Sharon Whitehouse, Dudley Library Manager.
“Jack Barber is a fount of knowledge and experienced speaker on the subject of Jane Austen, and we look forward to hearing more about her association with our part of the country and how that fed into her work.
“Jane may have only lived until she was 41 but the impact of her novels - ‘Sense and Sensibility’, ‘Pride and Prejudice’, ‘Northanger Abbey’, ‘Mansfield Park’, ‘Emma’ and ‘Persuasion’ - is still immense.”
Talks are free to attend, and booking is essential. To reserve a seat, please call Stourbridge Library on 01384 812945, Dudley Library on 01384 815560, Halesowen Library on 01384 812983 and Kingswinford Library on 01384 812740.
