Cllr Patrick Harley with staff from Bassam Jewellers

Jewellers is hidden gem in Stourbridge town centre

The leader of Dudley Council recently dropped by highly respected business, K Bassam Jewellers as part of his made in Dudley borough tour.

Councillor Patrick Harley called into visit the business which just celebrated its 30th anniversary. K Bassam Jewellery Services is a family-run business established by Kevin Bassam in 1991 when he opened his first shop in Court Street, Stourbridge with the help of The Princes Trust. Kevin then went on to open a Kidderminster branch in 2000 and a Bromsgrove branch in 2010.

Kevin’s knowledge of the industry is extensive, with a passion for creating bespoke one-off pieces of jewellery using various precious metals and gemstones. This has come from nearly 40 years of being immersed in the craft and he still has the same enthusiasm and drive today.

In-store, K Bassam Jewellers offer their customers the rare chance to see jewellery craftsmen at work in a traditional workshop environment. All of the shops carry out repairs onsite quickly and efficiently, with a lot of the repairs being done the same day.

The in-store designers can also work with a customer to design and create a bespoke item of jewellery for that special occasion.

Andy, Kevins' brother, is the bench jeweller in the Stourbridge store. He has honed his craft working alongside Kevin for many years and is able to undertake repairs to any piece of jewellery, as well as watches and clocks, rescuing pieces seemingly beyond repair.

While he can perform the most delicate manoeuvres with designs, he's no stranger to the less glamorous side of jewellery making.

Andy laughed:
Not a week goes by when I don't have to cut someone's ring off their finger. We had lots of people coming in after a few too many treats during covid! People think it's going to be scary but it's actually incredibly simple and safe with our bespoke equipment. And then of course we can repair and resize the item and you’d never know it had been handled at all.
Leader of Dudley Council, councillor Patrick Harley, said:
It was a real eye opener visiting K Bassam Jewellers. While they have all the top of the range equipment they still have those traditional skills which allow them to create and repair with such delicacy and precision. Andy is an incredibly talented artist and craftsman and his customers clearly hold him in high regard.
This little shop offers such a wide range of services and truly is a hidden gem. K Bassam have accomplished so much in 30 years and I hope people make the most of this fantastic business on their doorstep.

For the locals, they're recognised as talented jewellery repairers and makers, but not many people know that they also sell pre-owned pieces with a focus on classic older designs which they clean up and restore before sale. From rings, to bracelets, cufflinks to watches there are pre-owned and vintage pieces available for customers who prefer a piece of history to their jewellery.

Andy went on to say:
We love our customers and we love being in Stourbridge. We’ve been here for 30 years and have a loyal returning customer base. They know that whatever they bring in, in whatever state we can make it as good as new. It's also great to be able to find a new home for those pre-loved items allowing people to buy one off quality pieces at an honest price.
It was great to welcome Councillor Harley to the shop and show him all of our specialist kit which allows us to offer such a wide range of repair and commissioned services.
