122 to 126 Colley Gate

Landowner ordered to make property safe

A landowner who ignored several requests to carry out safety repairs to his property on Colley Gate in Halesowen has been hit with a court order.

Dudley Council brought the case against Mr Shakeel Hussain, after he left 122, 124 and 126 Colley Gate in a dangerous state.

Dudley Magistrates’ Court has ordered Mr Hussain to undertake the works to remove the danger or to demolish part or all of the property within the next 26 weeks. Failure to comply with the order would be a criminal offence.

He was also ordered to pay £300 towards the council’s costs of making the application for the order.

Heidi Marsh-Geyton, director of public realm, said:

We welcome the court’s verdict against Mr Hussain and look forward to seeing the overdue safety improvements being made.
This case shows that we will not hesitate to take action against landowners who refuse to comply with their responsibilities.
