Apprentice achieves level 4 working on Dudley Interchange

Local apprentice praised for work on scheme

A local young man has been praised for playing his part in work to develop the Dudley Interchange during his apprenticeship programme.

Hussain Reeves is currently studying a Level 4 in Construction Design and the Built Environment at Dudley College.

The 21-year-old is undertaking an ongoing apprenticeship programme with Taylor Woodrow, which has been awarded the contract to build the £24 million Interchange in Dudley town centre.

As part of the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Metro extension, the new Interchange will better connect people to leisure and job opportunities across the region, while also providing a modern gateway to Dudley town visitors.

Dudley Interchange is just one in a series of major regeneration projects which are transforming Dudley town centre.

Councillor Paul Bradley, cabinet member for economic regeneration, said:

“It was wonderful to meet Hussain today and to hear about the fantastic work he has been involved with on the Dudley Interchange construction for his apprenticeship scheme.

“This site is just one example of the many regeneration projects underway in the borough, and I would like to praise Taylor Woodrow and Dudley College for supporting Hussain and other young people to work on the site and learn fantastic skills.

“The new Dudley Interchange will allow passengers to switch seamlessly between buses and the Metro trams, which will run between Wednesbury to Brierley Hill.”

Matthew Peniket from Taylor Woodrow said:

“Taylor Woodrow is proud to be working in partnership with Transport for West Midlands and Dudley Council to deliver the Dudley Interchange scheme. This transformative infrastructure project is not only enhancing local transport but also creating valuable training and employment opportunities for the community.”

“As part of its commitment to social value and skills development, Taylor Woodrow is actively supporting young people through apprenticeships and work experience programs. These initiatives provide hands-on learning opportunities that help develop the next generation of skilled professionals in the construction industry.”

“One such success story is Hussain, an apprentice who is making excellent progress toward completing his Level 4 Qualification, due for completion in May 2025. Taylor Woodrow extends its congratulations to Hussain on his achievements and looks forward to continuing its collaboration with Dudley College to support more young people in gaining practical experience and valuable industry skills.”
