Love from Dudley campaign is ready to go online

Dudley council will take to social media this year to help raise awareness of the persecution suffered by LGBT+ people around the world.

A film compilation of photos from borough residents making heart shapes with their hands will be played over the council’s social media platforms from Friday May 15.

West End star Jonathan David Dudley, who is from the borough, has recorded the song ‘A million dreams’ from The Greatest Showman and will also be seen in the showreel.

Dudley Councillors Adam Aston and Shaun Keasey, who are involved in bringing the event to Dudley residents, will also be broadcasting their messages of Love from Dudley as the day is commemorated online due to the coronavirus outbreak.

A global event for International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) will be taking place around the world on May 17. The rainbow flag will be raised at the council house from May 15 at noon and also from Dudley Castle.

Councillor David Stanley, The Mayor of Dudley, said:

As both Mayor of Dudley and a borough resident I am very proud to be part of such a diverse borough where people from all backgrounds and lifestyles are cherished. It is especially poignant at the moment that we are thankful to live in a community of kindness and acceptance.

I am pleased that IDAHOBIT will still be recognised in Dudley this year despite us not being able to hold a physical event. I look forward to seeing the finished video over the weekend.
