Lyndon’s loving life!
Lyndon Westwood-Wright is loving his new trampoline – after it was put up by a kind-hearted housing maintenance worker at Dudley Council.
The nine-year-old cannot walk and is wheelchair bound due to Wiedemann-Steiner syndrome, a rare genetic disorder.
Because the family have a sloping garden at their home on the Russells Hall estate, the trampoline needed to be sunk deep into the ground to ensure its stability for Lyndon to use.
Zena Westwood, Lyndon’s mother, said:
“I received a call from the council’s children’s disability team asking if there was anything they could do to help us as we are on the vulnerable list.
“I mentioned that we had this trampoline that I hadn’t been able to put up that would be really beneficial for Lyndon’s mental health and wellbeing. Because the garden is on a slope he can’t use his wheelchair, so if he goes out he has to crawl. A few conversations happened and this week a member of the housing team have been here to do it for us.
“I’m really grateful for it – I would like to thank everyone at the council for making it happen. It will allow Lyndon to spend more time out in the fresh air and he is absolutely loving it.”
Council housing maintenance worker Simon Bowater completed the job this week while respecting social distancing guidelines – and the joy on Lyndon’s face was there for all to see.
Councillor Laura Taylor, cabinet member for housing, communities and residents’ welfare, said:
“As a council we are committed to doing all we can to help the most vulnerable people in our borough during these unprecedented times.
“This was a fantastic gesture from our housing team – and from Simon in particular - and I hope Lyndon really enjoys the time on his new trampoline.”
