Mayor attends unveiling of Covid rainbow

The Mayor of Dudley attended an event at Russells Hall Hospital yesterday (23 October) to unveil a glass rainbow monument marking the Covid 19 pandemic.

The Dudley Rainbow, which is over 10ft tall, has been sited outside the hospital following a community fundraising programme to commission it.

It is a permanent reminder of the work done across the borough during the Covid-19 crisis by NHS, key workers, public health officials and community and voluntary organisations.

The project, which was started by Councillor Keiran Casey at the height of the pandemic, has received support from people and organisations across Dudley and the West Midlands.

As well as the main rainbow structure, which is made up of glass hearts, there are two clouds on the outside and a plaque featuring a quote from Captain Sir Tom Moore.

Councillor Pete Lee, Mayor of Dudley, said:

“It has been an honour to attend the unveiling event today and to see this wonderful structure now in place outside the hospital.

“The rainbow will serve as a reminder of the incredible dedication and self-sacrifice shown by the borough’s key and frontline workers, to whom we all owe a great deal of gratitude.”
