Mayor congratulates residents named in Honors List

The Mayor of Dudley has praised three borough residents who have been selected in this year’s King’s Birthday Honours List.

Each year the extraordinary achievements of people from all walks of life and ages are recognised, with this year’s list including 25 people from across the West Midlands.

The list comprises awards for those who are making a difference in education, healthcare, transport and sport, as well as acknowledging a range of community-based services being provided such as helping the homeless, refugee resettlement, fundraising and working with children and young people.

Dudley’s selected representatives are Dr Kenneth Austin Smith, for services to the community, Christian Dixion, for services to Mental Health and Norma Hyde, for services to the special Olympics.

Councillor Hilary Bills, Mayor of Dudley, said:

“I would like to congratulate our three amazing residents who have been selected for the King’s Honours List.

“They have all gone above and beyond to make a difference in society and I am delighted to see their hard work and dedication being recognised.”

The Lord-Lieutenant of the West Midlands, Sir John Crabtree OBE, said:

“This year’s recipients showcase a range of outstanding achievements and provide an insight into the amazing people that make our region so great.

“We are all immensely grateful for what they do each and every day and I am absolutely delighted to see so many gain the recognition they deserve in the King’s Birthday Honours.
“Through the activities of the West Midlands Lieutenancy, I come across many people providing support and giving their time to help others. Now more than ever, there are so many unsung heroes who deserve to be honoured but they need someone to nominate them. I would encourage people from across the region to get involved and think about who is making a difference in their local area so that we can continue to recognise these individuals for the great work they are doing.”

The individual Honours are announced twice a year to mark The King’s official birthday in June and at the end of December - the New Year Honours.

Details on how to make a nomination are found on the West Midlands Lieutenancy website at www.wmlieutenancy.org.
