Mayor congratulates young footballers after cup win

The Mayor of Dudley hailed the achievements of a local girls’ football team after they won an illustrious regional trophy in their final match at youth level.

Councillor Hilary Bills welcomed members of Stourbridge FC Women’s under-16 team to the Council House to celebrate their success.

The side were victorious in the Central Warwickshire Cup tournament, defeating Inkberrow Eagles 4-2 on penalties after a dramatic game finished level at 3-3.

Many members of the cup-winning squad will now make the step up to Stourbridge’s development side with an eye on eventually breaking into the first team.

Councillor Hilary Bills, the Mayor of Dudley, said:

It was lovely to welcome these talented young footballers to the Council House to congratulate them on their recent cup final success.

I was so impressed by their ability to handle the pressure of a penalty shoot-out in their last game at junior level, particularly as the team have also been preparing for their GCSE exams during the course of the tournament.

More information on Stourbridge FC’s girls’ football section and their other youth teams are available on the club’s website.
