Mayor encourages eligible residents to get their flu vaccination

The Mayor of Dudley is encouraging eligible residents to take up the offer of a free flu vaccination this autumn after receiving his own jab.

Cllr Pete Lowe visited a local vaccination clinic to receive the vaccine and highlight the importance of protecting individuals, families and communities ahead of the winter months. The Mayor's visit aims to raise awareness of the annual flu vaccination programme and encourage those who are eligible to get protected before flu levels increase during the winter season.

Flu is a common infection that spreads easily and can cause serious illness for some people, particularly older adults, pregnant women, young children and those with certain long-term health conditions.

The annual vaccination programme helps reduce the risk of severe illness, hospital admission and the spread of flu to more vulnerable members of the community.

People who are eligible for a free flu vaccination can receive it through their GP practice, a participating pharmacy or other local vaccination services. Children are also offered protection through the NHS childhood vaccination programme, including a free nasal spray vaccine for eligible age groups. Alternative vaccination options are available for children where appropriate.

Cllr Pete Lowe, Mayor of Dudley, said:

"Flu can be more serious than many people realise, particularly for older people, young children and those living with certain health conditions.

"As we head into winter, I would encourage everyone who is eligible to take up the offer of a free vaccination. It is a simple step that can help protect you, your family and vulnerable members of our communities."
