Mayor meets the new Sheriff in town
The Mayor of Dudley met the new High Sheriff of the West Midlands in the parlour as part of his whistle-stop tour of the region.
Councillor Hilary Bills welcomed Doug Wright MBE to the town to formally congratulate him on his appointment to the role.
Mr Wright started his working life as a cleaner at McDonald’s and now runs 30 franchises of the fast food chain, employing nearly 3,000 people.
He was appointed to his new role in March, and is currently out and about trying to meet as many people as possible. Mr Wright was also chair of Ronald McDonald House charities in Birmingham for six years and is now heading up fundraising initiatives as chair of the newly formed Kids’ Village charity.
Councillor Hilary Bills, the Mayor of Dudley, said:
“I was delighted to welcome the High Sheriff to the parlour and formally congratulate him on his appointment to the role.
“Appointed by the King, he serves as the representative of the Crown in our county and his duties include upholding the law, supporting the judiciary and promoting the welfare of the community.
“I was really interested to hear about his background and how through hard work and determination he has worked his way up from cleaning restaurants to running them.
“I am sure he will be equally successful in his role as High Sheriff, and look forward to working closely with him this year.”
Doug Wright MBE, the High Sheriff of the West Midlands, said:
“It was great to visit Dudley today and meet the Mayor, Councillor Hilary Bills, and her consort.
“It’s very evident that she is incredibly passionate about the borough and will absolutely make a real difference in her year in office.
“I look forward to visiting Dudley regularly and to supporting the Mayor and the residents of Dudley across my shrieval year.”
