Mayor at Provision House

Mayor of Dudley visits Provision House

The Mayor of Dudley has visited local charity Provision House to learn more about how they are helping people in need across the borough and beyond.

Councillor Andrea Goddard met staff and volunteers yesterday on her trip to the Dudley-based organisation’s headquarters at the former Blunts Shoes building on the High Street.

The borough’s first citizen was given a tour of Provision House’s retail store, warehouse, carpentry shop and training facilities and spoke with some of the people who have benefited from the charity’s support.

Founded in 2004, Provision House supplies essential household items to people across the West Midlands who have faced difficulties like domestic violence, poverty, homelessness, and modern slavery.

They also operate a food club, which provides groceries for a small fee, and offer a range of training courses to help people to gain skills and become more employable.

Many household items collected by the charity are restored and upcycled by trainees in the Provision House workshop.

Councillor Andrea Goddard, the Mayor of Dudley, said:

“I was very moved to hear the stories of some of the people that Provision House have supported to rebuild their lives.

“Beyond sharing out household items and food, they also give people in need a chance to turn their circumstances around by developing their skills and helping them to regain their confidence.

“It was fantastic to see people who had been supported by Provision House coming back to assist others. Organisations like this are a vital part of our community and I was very grateful to have the opportunity to observe their work.”

Mark Price, chief executive of Provision House, said:

“We were delighted when the Mayor accepted our invitation to visit Provision House.

“It was so good to see our staff, volunteers and clients being able to share their experiences and stories, and they felt greatly encouraged and appreciated.”

Provision House will also be in attendance at Dudley’s pop-up tip on Lister Road tomorrow (Saturday) to accept donations of household goods and soft furnishings.

More information about the charity’s work is available on their website.
