Mayor of Dudley, Cllr David Stanley

Mayor the guest of honour for Rotary Club’s US link-up

The Mayor of Dudley joined Stourbridge Rotary Club on a Zoom call to the US – to celebrate more than 30 years of friendship with their stateside twin town.

Councillor David Stanley attended the Rotary Club’s Civic Day last week, held each year to celebrate the link-up between Stourbridge and Sturbridge in Massachusets, USA.

The two towns have been twinned since 1988.

The mayor spoke with Sturbridge Rotary Club president Ken Jones, town centre manager Jeff Bridges and other members about the differences between life in the borough and across the pond.

He was joined in the chat by other members of Stourbridge Rotary Club including president Julia Savage and secretary Fred Shaw.

Julia Savage, president of Stourbridge Rotary Club, said:

We have held a Civic or Friendship Day every year since 1993, where we take the opportunity to send greetings to our colleagues at Sturbridge and to present and read out a proclamation.
We were delighted that the Mayor was able to join us on this occasion, and look forward to many more in the years to come.

Councillor David Stanley, the Mayor of Dudley, said:

It was a pleasure once again to take part in Stourbridge Rotary Club Civic Day this year, via a Zoom meeting, with Sturbridge Rotary Club in the USA.
It was good speaking with their president and town centre manager, along with their Rotary members. To be able to share in the friendship that exists between the two towns was great.
