More cash to be released to care providers
Care homes across Dudley borough are set to receive another multi-million cash boost on Monday (8 June) to help with infection control during the pandemic.
Providers will receive a share of £3 million from Dudley Council over the coming weeks to help them through the coronavirus crisis, supporting their vital work in caring for some of the borough’s most vulnerable residents.
Being rolled out as part of the national government’s infection control pot, use of funds will be very specific in supporting providers to reduce transmission and possibilities of infection of COVID-19.
It adds to £2.5m allocated across providers in May. Since the outbreak began, the council has also provided weekly supplies of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and maintains regular contact with care providers to offer advice and guidance in infection control procedures.
The money will be used to fund support with staffing, different working routines and support for individual workers amongst other things.
The council is also supporting providers with initiatives and methods to effectively utilise the funding whilst promoting innovation with the use of technology and joint working.
Money will be allocated in two batches this month, with the first one going out this week (Monday 8 June) and the second at the end of the month.
Ongoing training in areas such as bereavement support is also being provided to the care homes.
Councillor Nicolas Barlow, cabinet member for health and social care, said:
Care providers continue to serve some of our most vulnerable residents with true dedication in these most difficult of times. I wish to extend my personal gratitude to the sector for their humbling and selfless work.
Dudley Council is committed to doing all we can to support care homes through the pandemic and we are pleased to be able to offer this funding to them at a time when they need it most.
We will continue work with providers to provide training and ensure money is spent in the areas where it will be most effective.
