Himley-2

More than 1,000 cars drive in for Himley film fest

More than 1,000 cars parked up at Himley over the weekend - as the first ever drive-in cinema for years to be held in the grounds of the stately home was dubbed a roaring success.

Four films – Frozen 2, Grease, Toy Story and The Lion King – were shown on Saturday and Sunday as fans came out in force to enjoy films in a safe and socially distanced environment in the sunshine.

Grease, Toy Story and The Lion King all sold out, with more than 300 cars in for each show.

Bosses are now exploring the possibilities of holding similar events in the future.

Councillor Ian Kettle, cabinet member responsible for halls, said:

The feedback we have had from our first drive-in cinema at Himley has been fantastic.
Everyone followed the social distancing guidelines we put in place and we would like to thank everyone who came out and supported the event.
We’ve been asked by lots of people if we plan to do any more and it’s certainly something we are looking at now – keep an eye on the Himley Hall website for announcements.
