More than £2 million raised in land sales to bolster reserves
Dudley Council has raised more than £2 million by selling off land and buildings deemed surplus to requirements.
The cash will be used to bolster the reserves of the authority as it continues to face unprecedented financial challenges to balance the books.
The authority has completed the sale of the Leys Depot in Brockmoor, Brierley Hill. The 3.5 acre site had most recently been used by the council for storage purposes.
The council has also disposed of Kent Street Pensioners Club in Kent Street, Upper Gornal. Land has been sold too in Uplands Close, Dudley, and Bromley Lane, Kingswinford.
Councillor Steve Clark, cabinet member for resources, said:
“The battle to balance the books is an ongoing one, and we need to look at all options to raise revenue to ensure we stay in the black.
“We have managed to raise just over £2 million by selling off land that we had deemed surplus to requirements, and will now be brought back into use by developers.
“The cash will be used to bolster our reserves to ensure we can continue to deliver a balanced budget and deliver key frontline services for our residents.”
