New play area opens in Brierley Hill

New play equipment and play spaces are now available for children in the Hawbush area, with families being invited to attend an opening event.

Dudley Council has invested £85,000 in the new play equipment in Brierley Hill using Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding, which enables the local authority to raise funds from developers for infrastructure, facilities, and services in the borough.

Local families are being invited to attend an opening event on Saturday (22 Septmber) at 12pm by the Swan Field Play Area. There will be games and activities and a goody bag giveaway by play partners Kompan.

The work, which was done in conjunction with the Hawbush Tenants and Residents Association, will see a new toddler activity zone on the Wells Road green space including cradle swings, balancing equipment, springers and spinners.

At Swanfield Road open space there is new play equipment for primary school aged children including slides, monkey bars, swings, an accessible carrousel, a toddler castle, a three-seater seesaw, play panels and much more.

The old Hawbush play area was also transformed last year, when new play equipment and football goals were installed.

Councillor Paul Bradley, deputy leader of Dudley Council, said:

“As part of Dudley Council vision for a Child Friendly Borough we are keen to invest in creating and maintaining spaces where our children can play and be active.

“The new play equipment at Hawbush will no doubt prove very popular with our local families and children, and I hope people in the area will join the event to see these fantastic improvements for themselves.”

Geoff Lawley from the Hawbush Tenants and Residents Association, said:
“The TRA started a campaign to get this new equipment in some time ago and we are really pleased to see this here now for our local children.

“We will continue to work with the local authority to look at ways of making improvements to the green spaces in our area.”
