New waste service to get underway in Dudley borough

People who live in Dudley borough are being reminded the new waste and recycling service starts from next month with collection schedules now available to view.

Dudley Council has been delivering new bins to residents as part of the new service, in line with national government legislation, ahead of its start from 6 April.

Residents are asked to check their new collection dates, with this year’s collection dates now available to view at www.dudleyrecycles.org.uk.

Under the roll out, households are receiving a 23-litre food waste caddy with a lockable handle and a smaller seven-litre one, along with an initial roll of liners for the smaller caddy. An instructional booklet has also sent out, asking residents to empty the food waste in the smaller kitchen caddy, along with the liner, into the larger outdoor container for the weekly collections.

Residents are also receiving a 240-litre blue wheeled bin for recycling cans, plastic, glass and cartons. It replaces the current green recycling bags and black boxes, with households retaining the blue bags for paper and card. Green bags can be used for extra paper and card if required. Recycling collections will remain fortnightly.

Stickers on the new bins remind residents that they are not to be used until the service starts from April 6.

The existing black wheelie bin is being retained for non-recyclable waste and will be collected fortnightly when the new service starts. Green bins will also be collected every two weeks for households that have subscribed to the service.

For residents who have communal waste and shared bins, collections will initially continue unchanged in April before the new service is rolled out at a date to be announced.

Councillor Damian Corfield, cabinet member for neighbourhoods, said:

“From next month we will be introducing a new waste and recycling service in line with the latest national government legislation.

“I would like to thank our residents for their patience and support as we have rolled out the new bins, and people can now view their new collection dates online.

“The legislation states that all councils must simplify and expand their household recycling processes, which includes this introduction of mandatory food waste collections. Residents will continue to receive a weekly collection through the new food waste service.”
