No need to be bored this half term

Despite the pandemic lockdown, libraries in Dudley borough are offering weekly online reading and singing sessions for young children and their families including the popular ‘Rattle and Rhyme’.

This week, sessions are being offered live from the libraries on Tuesday and Saturday and people can join in from home via their facebook page - @Dudleylibraries.

Councillor Laura Taylor, cabinet member responsible for libraries, said:

I’m delighted that libraries are offering these sessions for younger children to enjoy from home as we know the pandemic is having an impact on the sorts of activities parents would usually take them to.

I would encourage all families who are at home to share their ideas and tips for keeping busy on social media using #dudleystayshome.

Organisations, faith groups or community volunteers who are continuing their valuable work over February half-term will also be using the hashtag #halftermheroes to recognise and celebrate people supporting their communities.

Councillor Ruth Buttery, cabinet member for children and young people, said:

I want to thank everyone in our communities for continuing to go above and beyond to keep our children safe, loved and involved as we continue to ask people to stay at home in order to slow the spread of Covid-19.

There are so many more organisations doing amazing work to support children and families during the half term and we’d love for them to tag us in on any of their social media activity using #halftermheroes and #dudleystayshome to share their amazing stories.

Dudley Council is supporting all eligible children on free school meals over the February half-term and we are working with a range of voluntary, faith and community groups to provide further support for those in need.
