October Half-Term Fun Across Dudley Museums with Glass, Fossils and Dinosaurs

Families and visitors across Dudley are in for a treat this October, with a packed programme of creative, spooky and educational events at the Red House Glass Cone and Dudley Museum at the Archives.

At the Red House Glass Cone, Wordsley there’s a free trail, a book launch and the new coffee house will be open for business with family friendly treats. Heavenly Baking coffee shop will open at the cone on Friday 24 October and will be serving up drinks and treats throughout half term.

To celebrate the launch of his new children’s book The Glass Cone Gnome, Professor Black will be visiting the museum on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 October, from 11am to 3pm, to lead an exciting treasure hunt for the loot stolen by the mischievous crystal goblins. Families will also have the chance to meet the author in person and pick up a signed copy of the book. As part of the fun, children can take part in the “Name Our Gnome” competition for a chance to win some fantastic goodies.

On Friday 17 October, adults can take part in Chat and Paint: Spooky Cat, a relaxed painting session with a retro Halloween twist. Tickets are priced at £9.75 per person.

On Saturday 18 October, families with children aged 7 and over can enjoy Family Fast Fusing: Spooks and Monsters, where they’ll create colourful fused glass monsters using glass pieces and powders. Tickets cost £9.75 per person.

On Saturday 25 October, the Cone hosts The Glass Children – After Hours Tour, a spine-tingling evening experience for adults and brave children aged 14 and over. The tour explores mysterious tales of vanished glass workers and unexplained happenings. Tickets are £7.50 per person.

On Sunday 26 October, visitors aged 12 and over can take part in the Fused Glass Workshop: Haunted House, crafting spooky glass houses perfect for Halloween. Tickets are £15.00 per person.

On Tuesday 28 October, families can join Fast Fusing: Rancid Rats or Scary Cats, a creepy twist on glass fusing ideal for children accompanied by an adult. Tickets are £9.75 per person.

Over at Dudley Museum at the Archives on Saturday 18 October, families can join a Free Guided Tour of the museum’s galleries, including the ever-popular Dinosaur Gallery. This event is suitable for ages 6 and up and is free to attend. Sessions run at 10.30a, 11.45am, 1.15pm and 2.30pm. Tours last 45 minutes to an hour. Visitors will learn how the people of the black country used raw materials underground to shape the modern world and change our understanding of life in the past. 

On Wednesday 29 October, children aged 4 and over can enjoy Dinosaur Crafts, where they’ll make spooky dino-themed crafts and fossil casts. This event is also free of charge. Sessions run at 10.30am, 12pm, 1.30pm and
