Open day at the archives

Dudley Archives is holding an open day this weekend with talks, tours and advice on researching family history.

The open day on Saturday 5 August runs from 11am – 3pm at Dudley Archives, Tipton Road, DY1 4SQ.

The Friends of Dudley Archives are hosting the event with help from archives staff. They will be offering help and advice with family history research and WWI research ‘The Lost and the Living.’

There will also be tours of the archives and two local history talks, all of which need to be booked in advance. These are, at 11.30am "The Rebuilding of St Thomas's Church, Dudley" and at 1.30pm "The Memorials and Gravestones of St Edmunds Church."

There will also be a book stall, raffle and refreshments for sale.

Councillor Ian Bevan, cabinet member for public health, responsible for libraries, said:
Our Friends Groups do a fantastic job of organising and hosting events to promote everything the service has to offer.
This looks to be a really interesting event and will give people dipping their toes into family history a chance to find out what resources and help are on offer.
Stephanie Rhoden, Better partnership manager for Dudley Libraries said:
Our archives service offers a whole host of facilities and services as well as research guides and courses to get people started.
There’s so much to research, with business ledgers, maps, school records, local papers and local authority correspondence and minutes, books, pamphlets and images all helping people to piece together the past.
