Overgrown car park in Lye cleared

An overgrown car park in Lye is being brought back to life as part of a £65,000 project to encourage more shoppers into the town.

The carpark in Clinic Drive has been cleared and will be resurfaced as part of the work by Dudley Council.

It has become overgrown in recent years and has also been a target for fly-tipping. Local councillors had complained and called for the carpark to be brought back into use to help boost parking availability in Lye for shoppers and traders.

A cross-party working group of councillors was set up to look at the issue and CCTV added to help improve security.

The final part of the work will see the carpark resurfaced and new lines added.

Councillor Shaz Saleem, cabinet member for highways and public realm, said:
The cross-party working group of councillors has been really useful in getting this work done, and I am very grateful for everyone’s efforts. It was identified as an issue and I am delighted that the work is now well under way. When complete this will have a very positive impact on the town and help make Lye a more accessible place to visit.
