Parents urged to make sure jabs are up to date

As children prepare for their return to school next month, parents and carers are being urged to make sure their children are up to date with immunisations before starting school.

Dudley Council’s cabinet member for public health has joined other health leaders across the Black Country to encourage parents to ensure children have had the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) jab.

A number of pop-up clinics are taking place across the Black Country during August to give parents the chance to get their child covered before September with full information online.

Councillor Ian Bevan, cabinet member for public health, said:

Measles is a highly infectious disease that can lead to serious complications if it is not treated.
Unfortunately, some parts of the country have seen an increase in measles cases, and we want to remind parents of the benefits of getting their children vaccinated before they start school.
The combined jab gives good protection against measles, but it also gives vital protection against mumps and rubella, which can both have huge consequences if a child is not covered later on in life.
