Passion Play live performance in Dudley

Saltmine Theatre Company is bringing its unique retelling of the Easter story to the streets of Dudley next week.

On Friday 19 April and Saturday 20 April, the creative arts charity based in Dudley will be performing a unique contemporary retelling of Jesus’ last days, death and resurrection live on the streets of Dudley.

This is an ambulatory performance with the audience following the actors as they perform at locations throughout the town centre. Both performances start at the Duncan Edwards statue at 12.30pm and aiming to finish at 2.00pm at the Evolve Theatre in Coronation Gardens.

People can join the performance as it moves through the streets. It will travel from the Duncan Edwards statue, to the fountain in the Market Place, along the High Street, to Stone Street Square, Coronation Gardens and Evolve college.

Rachael Orrell, CEO, Saltmine Theatre Company said:

“It is a privilege for us to tell the story of Jesus on the streets of Saltmine’s hometown, Dudley. Performed in Birmingham, Norwich, Stafford and now here, this Passion Play is an unconventional, contemporary and powerful re-telling of the First Easter. We hope that everyone who follows the dramatic action with its live music through Dudley town centre will have a memorable experience."

Kevin O’Keefe, chief executive of Dudley Council, said:

“The dedicated staff from the Saltmine Theatre Company and our borough churches have put a great deal of work into staging a distinctive and modern telling of the Easter story, held on the streets of Dudley town centre. I hope residents will enjoy these unique live performances.”

Adapted every year to immerse the UK’s distinctive towns and cities in the Easter story, this production is by the community, for the community.

Saltmine Theatre Company have partnered with the local community including Churches in the Dudley Borough, Dudley Council and Dudley College to see this vision brought to life.
