Plans for new housing board
Plans for a new board which will provide governance and strategic direction for Dudley Council’s housing services, will go before cabinet next week.
At the meeting on June 28, members will be asked to approve a recommendation for a housing assurance board.
The board will help the council meet forthcoming statutory regulations outlined in the new Social Housing Regulation Bill.
It will also provide independent oversight of the council’s recovery programme to improve its housing data quality after self-referring to the Regulator of Social Housing earlier this year.
The board would oversee the strategic direction and performance of the council’s housing and community directorate and report to the housing scrutiny committee.
It will be made up of representatives from the council as well as two independent non-executive directors.
Councillor Laura Taylor-Childs, cabinet member for housing and safer communities, said:
The new government legislation will strengthen the regulatory regime and the Bill places a great deal of importance on good governance.
By getting the board up and running now, we’ll be able to provide significant assurance to the Regulator of Social Housing that we have strong and robust governance arrangements in place.
