Postal votes reminder

With the recent government announcement that elections are set to take place on Thursday 6 May people are being reminded they can register to vote by post to make things easier and safer for them during the pandemic.

People will be heading to the polls for local, Police Crime Commissioner and West Midlands Combined Authority Mayoral elections on the same day.

While polling stations will be open as normal on 6 May, albeit with social distancing and other covid safety measure in place, some people may prefer the convenience of postal voting rather than voting in person or by proxy.

Letters will be issued to all homes in the coming weeks giving details of residents who are currently registered as electors.

Kevin O’Keefe, Chief Executive and electoral returning officer at Dudley Council, said:

It’s really important that people take part in the democratic process despite the pandemic. These elections allow people’s voices to be heard and we want to make sure that everyone who can vote is registered to do so.
Our polling stations will be open on 6 May, but registering for a postal vote may suit a whole range of people from the older and more vulnerable, those who are shielding or simply people who are working that day and who would find a postal vote more convenient.
Please do register to vote and cast your vote either by post, in person or by proxy, it’s really important that your voice is heard.”
