Pothole reports on the increase
Highways engineers have had more than 760 reports of potholes on Dudley borough roads in the past three months.
Dudley Council is working around the clock to deal with the road defects, many of which were caused by the snow and ice last month.
They are also running a rigorous programme of proactive patching on problem roads as well as the reactive service.
In February the service received 195 reports of potholes. That figure rocketed to 365 following the snow and ice in March. So far in April there have been 208 more reports of potholes.
Nicholas McGurk, head of transport and highways, said:
We are receiving lots of reports of potholes which is usually the case following bouts of snow and ice. We are grateful to members of the public for reporting these to us and are working as quickly as we can to fix them. However, we also have regular inspections and repairs to the highways which are patched rather than filling in the potholes. That means they last a lot longer and are far more robust to deal with continuous use. We are looking at doing more of that to ensure we are as efficient as we can be.
