Dudley councillors visit Provision House in Dudley

Provision House to accept donations at Dudley pop-up tip

Local charity Provision House will be accepting donations from residents at two sessions of Dudley’s pop-up tip.

Users of the waste disposal site on Lister Road can donate their unwanted items on 2 and 16 September.

The charity is on the look-out for soft furniture and domestic goods like kettles, toasters, microwaves, lamps, power tools and toys.

Based in Dudley town centre, Provision House supplies essential household items to people who have faced difficulties like domestic violence, poverty, homelessness, and modern slavery.

Councillor Damian Corfield, cabinet member for highways and environmental services, said:

We’re pleased to welcome Provision House to our next set of pop-up tip dates. They do fantastic work to support people who often have very few belongings to their names and help them to build a home for themselves.
More than 12 tonnes’ worth of furniture has been donated at our pop-up site since April, so it made perfect sense to invite them along to Lister Road and have our residents’ unwanted household items go to a good cause.

Councillor Dr Rob Clinton, cabinet member for climate change, said:

Reusing, recycling, upcycling and repurposing household goods and old furniture helps to reduce the carbon footprint produced by manufacturing new items.
Provision House is a brilliant charity, and we hope this initial trial run of collections at our pop-up tip can be extended into the future.

The centre is based at 80-81 High Street and people can find out more by calling 0121 285 3970.

It will hold an Open Day on Wednesday 16 August from 1.30 to 3.30pm to promote a number of upcycling courses that are taking place from mid September.

Nick Gainsford, senior manager at Provision House, said:

This initiative presents a great opportunity to further reduce the amount of unwanted domestic items going to landfill.
Provision House is dedicated to supporting people in need by recycling and upcycling everyday unwanted items.

Slots at the pop-up tip must be booked in advance using the quick and easy online booking system

Items that can be dropped off at the site include green waste, wood, scrap metal, small electrical items, residual waste, bricks, rubble, plasterboard, household waste, general recycling, mattresses and furniture.

Tyres, oils, liquids, car batteries, gas cylinders and hazardous waste cannot be accepted. No vans or cars with trailers are permitted at the site.

Appointments at the pop-up tip can be cancelled by completing the cancellation form on the council website, which is also linked in the booking confirmation email.
