Record year for litter picking
Dudley Council is thanking borough community groups for holding a record-breaking number of litter picks over the last 10 months.
Since April, more than 2,000 people have taken part in almost 900 Dudley Council supported litter picks across the borough.
The local authority provides resources for people litter picking in the community, including litter pickers, high vis jackets and bin sacks.
It has supported an increasing number of litter picks over the last six years, with year-on-year growth recorded in the amount of rubbish collected.
During the last twelve months, more than 2,600 sacks of rubbish have been removed from parks and green spaces by community groups over an estimated volunteer time of 3,000 hours.
Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for public realm, said:
We spend £3.3million a year to help keep our borough clean and tidy, but the incredible volunteers who litter pick and clean in Dudley borough also play a key role in maintaining the local environment.
I would like to thank all those who give up their free time to support the local community and would encourage any groups considering litter picking to get in touch with the council to find out how we can support them.
