Regen blueprint wins award for innovation
The £1billion regen blueprint for Dudley town centre has scooped a top business award.
Dudley Council’s regeneration plans which include the Metro, Very Light Rail and the developments at Castle Hill won the Excellence in Innovation category at the Nachural Business Awards on Friday (July 8).
The council’s booking system at the household waste and recycling centre in Dudley had also been shortlisted in the Customer Services category but was pipped to the post on the evening.
A handful of business which were visited by senior council figures as part of the Made in Dudley Borough initiative were also shortlisted in the awards.
Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council, said:
Real change is happening right now in Dudley town centre for local people, businesses and investors to see and we are proud of the progress we are making.
This award sets Dudley apart. It recognises the regeneration is innovative, forward-thinking, and delivering the best possible opportunities.
I want to commend all of the borough businesses who were shortlisted in the awards, a huge achievement in itself.
Each and every business in our borough plays their part in supporting our local economy and providing jobs. It’s important we recognise their contribution and continue to celebrate them.
Ninder Johal, CEO of Nachural and chair of the Wolverhampton Towns Fund Board, said:
I was delighted to see Dudley, as a local authority, had entered the business awards and equally pleased to see the judging panel selected the council as winners for innovation.
The £1 billion regeneration programme Dudley Council is embarking on is ambitious and innovative and everything we want to see across the region to support the levelling up agenda and boost the local economy.
