Residents to get help from Dudley Council with the cost of living
Borough residents will be able to apply for a one-off payment of £250 from Dudley Council later this month.
Applications through the Household Support Fund (HSF) will open online on Wednesday September 17, with payments allocated on a first come first served basis.
Residents can only apply if they live within Dudley borough, have less than £3,000 in household savings and have a household income of less than £40,000, or £30,000 for a single occupancy household.
It is anticipated due to high demand the scheme may close very quickly once the funding limit has been reached.
Payments will be made subject to eligibility and availability. Further information is available online. Applications will take approximately four weeks to process.
The government announced in March that Dudley Council would receive £4.6 million in the latest round of funding, allocated by the Department for Work and Pensions.
As in previous rounds, most of the money is to be distributed through key council services and organisations within the voluntary sector. It is used to provide support to households experiencing financial hardship or crisis, who would otherwise struggle to buy food, pay essential utility bills, or meet other essential living or housing costs.
Councillor Andrea Goddard, cabinet member for adult social care and public health, said:
“We’ve already been able to support some of our most vulnerable residents by distributing millions of pounds through earlier phases of the Household Support Fund.
“We’re pleased to once again offer one-off payments of up to £250 through our simple online application process, providing extra help for those feeling the pressure of rising living costs.
“It’s important to note that our online application scheme represents just a small portion—around 16 per cent—of how the Household Support Fund is used.
“The vast majority of this funding is directed through our frontline services to ensure it reaches those who need it most.
“This initiative is just one part of the broader work we’re doing to support residents and ease the financial pressures many are currently facing.”
