Road safety team gears up for regional awards
Dudley Council’s road safety and travel awareness team has been shortlisted in two categories at a regional awards ceremony.
The road safety team has been nominated in the sports category for this year’s Community Inspiration Awards, which recognises outstanding contributions made by the public sector and members of the community.
The team’s work on the popular Bikeability programme earned praise from the awards committee, who hailed the council’s cycling instructors for their inclusive style of teaching and passion for their sport.
Delia Mills, a long-serving member of the council’s school crossing patrols, has been shortlisted in the public services category at the awards.
After joining the crossing patrol in 1977, Delia has shared valuable road safety skills with three generations of school pupils during 45 years of service.
Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for public realm, said:
I’m thrilled to hear the road safety team have been shortlisted for another regional award. Our Bikeability instructors are incredibly dedicated and I hope their work to make Dudley a safe place to cycle will be rewarded.
I would also like to give my congratulations to Delia Mills, who has served our community magnificently for decades. Winning the award would be a wonderful way to celebrate her sapphire anniversary with the team and I wish her the best of luck.
The winners of the Community Inspiration Awards will be announced on Tuesday 29 March at a ceremony in Birmingham.
