Royal Yeomanry plant tree for the Queen
The B (SWWY) Squadron of the Royal Yeomanry today planted a tree in Coronation Gardens to honour the Queen during her jubilee year.
B Squadron, led by Squadron Leader, Major Adam Tyler planted the aptly named Betula ‘Royal Frost' ably assisted by the Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Anne Millward on Wednesday 23 March.
Members of the Army Reserve Squadron, based in King Street Dudley, supported the event, with one soldier in ceremonial uniform with sword and busby, together with members of the Old Comrades Association.
Councillor Anne Millward, Mayor of Dudley, said:
It was a privilege to meet with Squadron Leader, Major Adam Tyler and members of the Squadron who took the time to come and plant this ceremonial tree in honour of her Majesty.
It will continue to grow and flourish in Coronation Gardens and pay homage to a monarch who has served our nation for so long.
B Squadron Leader Adam Tyler said:
We are very proud to represent the community of Dudley and surrounding areas and this tree planting serves not only to commemorate HM the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, but also the strong ties between the Army Reserve and the Borough.
It also acts as a lasting commemoration of all Yeomanry volunteers from Dudley since 1794. We look forward to paying our respects each Remembrance Day, when we parade through the town.
The Mayor of Dudley and the Lord Lieutenant recently planted another ceremonial tree, a 4.5m tall Magnolia ‘Elizabeth’ in the formal gardens at George V Park Wordsley.
The tree is one of thousands set to be planted across the borough in support of the Queen’s Green Canopy project which encourages individuals, groups, schools and organisation to plant or sponsor a tree to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. To get involved visit https://queensgreencanopy.org/
