Saltwells to offer rapid testing in New Year

A rapid testing site in the borough for frontline key workers will be opened up to everyone in the New Year in the latest move to fight the coronavirus.

Community testing with super-quick results for borough residents with no symptoms of Covid-19 will be available at Saltwells Education Centre from Monday January 4th.

The rapid flow antigen tests – which generate results in around half an hour – are currently only available at selected pharmacies across the borough.

But residents will now be able to also book appointments online at Saltwells, in Bowling Green Road, Dudley Wood, from 9.30am to 3.30pm at https://bookit.zipporah.co.uk/TrackAndTrace.Dudley/. Walk in appointments are not available and tests must be booked in advance using the online system.

The tests are for people who are completely symptom free. Anyone displaying any of the symptoms of coronavirus - a new, continuous cough, a high temperature or a loss or change to their sense of smell – must book a standard COVID test at one of the borough’s four testing sites which continue to operate by visiting https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test.

Councillor Nicolas Barlow, cabinet member for health and adult social care, said:

“I’m really pleased we’re now at the point where we can introduce this in the borough.

“Unfortunately, just because people are symptom free doesn't mean they are necessarily Covid free.

“This testing will help prevent people from unwittingly spreading the virus as they simply don't realise they're infected.”
