Councillor Damian Corfield, Jake Powell, Chris Darby and Ben Powell on school crossing

School crossing patrols join the crew

Dudley Council has successfully recruited six new school crossing patrols for permanent sites throughout the borough.

The patrols join a team of 34 existing team members with the council currently advertising for a further 12 people to take on the role.

Areas being covered by the new patrols include Highgate Road, covering Woodside Primary, Bradleys Lane, covering Wallbrook Primary, Grange Road, covering Jesson’s Primary, Himley Road, covering Jesson’s Primary, High Park Avenue, covering The Ridge Primary, and Buffery Road, covering Sledmere Primary.

Posts are available across the borough, particularly in the Halesowen area.

Councillor Damian Corfield, cabinet member for highways and environmental services, said:

The patrols do very important work in helping to keep children and parents safe on the roads.
It is an incredibly rewarding job that gives people a great opportunity to be a really valued part of the local community and many of our patrols love the role so much that they stay with us for decades.
I would encourage anyone who thinks they might be suitable to give the team a call to find out more.
Chris Darby, school crossing patrol, said:

I have very recently joined the team and I’m really enjoying the role, it’s very rewarding and the school community has been so welcoming.
I encourage anyone considering the role to come forward and find out more.
All posts advertised are permanent. Shift times vary on each site, but cover is required during morning and afternoon school runs. Each shift is typically 45 minutes. Posts are for term time only – 39 weeks a year. Successful applicants will need to undergo a DBS check and health screening.
