School spreads message of kindness
A Dudley borough primary school has been spreading a message of kindness in the local community during the coronavirus outbreak.
Staff at St Margaret’s at Hasbury Primary School in Halesowen launched a treasure hunt in the local community for pupils who attend the school and local residents to enjoy and take part in.
Each member of staff painted a rock with the message #kindness painted on the back before hiding it somewhere in the local area and posting it on a local Facebook page.
People were invited to find the rocks and then leave them for other people to find and enjoy. More than 30 painted rocks have been hidden in total with many families from the community taking part.
The treasure hunt and other activities organised by the school to keep pupils busy and active during lockdown have received positive feedback.
One parent said that “The staff of St Margaret’s really have gone above and beyond to ensure that the children have felt very much part of the school community in these very difficult times.”
Sara Shepherd, headteacher at St Margaret’s at Hasbury Primary School, said:
At a time when people may have felt worried or anxious we wanted to spread positivity within our school community and give our pupils and local residents something fun to do and focus on while being able to follow social distancing guidelines.
The wonderful feedback we’ve had from parents and people within the community really does mean the world to us and I’m glad we’ve been able to spread a little joy.
Councillor Ruth Buttery, cabinet member for children’s services, said:
We’ve seen some wonderful examples of schools across the borough going above and beyond. Thanks to all the staff at St Margaret’s for reaching out to their local community and making a difference at a time when it really mattered.
