Social workers praised in external review
Social workers looking after vulnerable adults in the borough have been praised following an external review of their work by industry experts.
Principal social workers from Stoke-on-Trent, Herefordshire and Telford and Wrekin councils came in during November and December last year to carry out a practice review.
It involved the examination of 20 case records as well as speaking to staff, service users and their families.
The experts found that in 90 per cent of cases the work done was either “outstanding” or “good”, with only two of the 20 files examined marked as “requires improvement”.
Councillor Matt Rogers, cabinet member for adult social care, said:
“I was really pleased to read the feedback from the independent practice review.
“The conclusions are testament to the long hours and hard work put in by our social workers, in often challenging circumstances.
“I was particularly pleased to read that it was clear in all the cases examined that the person we were helping had a voice and a say in the actions we took. That is very important.
“We will of course take on board the feedback we received in areas they felt we needed to improve, and work is already under way with regards to that.
“But I have to say our social workers do an outstanding job looking after the most vulnerable adults in our borough, the people who most need our help. They have my utmost thanks and gratitude.”
