Splash of paint for Titanic anchor

The company which delivers a range of painting and building maintenance work for Dudley Council’s housing team has repainted and refreshed the reproduction piece using staff from its Dudley office.

The reproduction anchor was installed in Netherton in 2011 as part of a Channel 4 documentary series about the making of the historic ship, in partnership with Dudley Council. It has taken pride of place in the heights of Netherton and is a popular local landmark.

The team from Bell Group have stripped back the original paintwork and refreshed it with three new coats of specialist paint and have also employed a professional signwriter to refresh the lettering which says ‘Hingley. Netherton’

Councillor Simon Phipps, cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise, said:

It was quite the occasion when the reproduction anchor made its return journey to Netherton in 2010 before being permanently installed on a bespoke plinth in 2011. It serves as a reminder of the industry and skills of the people of Netherton and the Black Country.

The reproduction anchor weighs over 16 tonnes and is housed on a bespoke stand
