Superstitions at Sedgley
Have you ever wondered where superstitions come from and why they’re so powerful? Join Professor Black at Sedgley Library, Dudley, on 1 March at 1pm to be enlightened – and a little scared.
Aimed purely at grown-ups, ‘Superstitions’ is a free talk that will investigate why walking beneath ladders, opening an umbrella indoors, breaking a mirror and meeting a black cat are thought to bring bad luck.
“Most of us have superstitions and this will be a good chance to explore where they come from and why they can change behaviour,” said Sedgley Librarian Tracy Rollason.
“Professor Black would also be interested in hearing about the superstitious beliefs of his audience so come prepared – it promises to be a fascinating insight into an intriguing, and often dark world.”
Operating under the Better brand, GLL is the charitable social enterprise that runs Dudley Libraries on behalf of Dudley Council.
“Sedgley Library offers a range of interesting events and activities – as well as a fabulous selection of books to choose from,” said Stephanie Rhoden, Dudley Libraries Partnership Manager.
“Superstitions is expected to be the first in a series of monthly free talks at Sedgley and, as a regular library speaker, Professor Black comes well recommended.
