Test drive an electric vehicle for free

Anyone interested in going all electric can come along to a free electric vehicle test drive event on Thursday 12 September.

The event runs from 9.30am until 1pm at BCIMO, Dudley's Very Light Rail Innovation Centre on Zoological Drive, Dudley, DY1 4AW

It’s a chance to learn more about the world of electric vehicles (EVs), eBikes and eScooters with an opportunity to view static vehicles, as well as test drive* a selection of EVs, vans, eBikes and eScooters.

Confirmed test drive vehicles include Toyota RAV4 PHEV & Proace City Van, Tesla Model Y & Model 3, Mercedes eVito, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Kona and more.

Static vehicles include Ford e-Custom, Hyundai Ioniq 5 & Ioniq 6, Mercedes eSprinter, Renault Rafale, Kia EV6 & EV9 and more.

There will also be an indoor exhibition of local providers to talk about vehicle and charging provision.

The event compliments work by Dudley Council to increase the range of public charge points available to its residents. Following public consultations in 2022 and 2023 the authority is now finalising a programme of installations which will see a number of on-street residential electric car charge points, prioritising those streets with no off-road parking.

Councillor Damian Corfield, cabinet member for highways and environmental services, said:

“We’re really grateful to Black Country Transport, BCIMO and all our partners for putting on this event. Interest in electric vehicles is growing and free test drive sessions like this where you can try a range of different vehicles can help people to make an informed decision as to the best choice for them.

“People can find out about vehicles, charging requirement and providers and generally everything you could possibly need to know if you’re considering purchasing an electric vehicle.”

Hosted at BCIMO by Black Country Transport with partners Let's Experience Electric and Transport for West Midlands, together with Coventry University, ITWG part of Innovation Alliance for the West Midlands and BCIMO as part of the hashtag#CleanFuturesCatalyst.

*Please note: To participate in the electric vehicle (EV) test drives, you must carry a valid driver's license for a minimum of 2 years and be over 21 years of age. Your licence will be required on the day.
