Thousands flock to Armed Forces Day 2023
Thousands of people soaked up the sunshine at this year’s annual Armed Forces Day celebrations at Himley Hall and Park.
The free event, run by Dudley Council and supported by Black Country Safety Inspections, SWG Construction and SF Harrison Roofing took place on Sunday 25 June.
The event included All About Swing dance taster sessions, a craft fair and vintage fairground rides plus musical performances from Suzi Wood and Got2Sing Choir.
There were activities for all ages including a climbing wall, archery and punch & Judy.
There was a vintage military vehicle display as well as military stands from the Army, RAF and sea cadets and reserve units including HMS Forward, the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and the Royal Engineers and the Royal Yeomanry.
One of the highlights of the free day was when the Mayor of Dudley and Deputy Lieutenant Richard Boot OBE presented former and current armed forces personnel with their HM Armed Forces Badges.
Councillor Andrea Goddard, Mayor of Dudley, said:
It was a real honour to take part in today’s celebrations and pay tribute to those who have served our country.
Families enjoyed the entertainment, stalls, activities and performances which were laid on free of charge.
While the day might be a great summer’s day out it also allows us to bring our communities together to find out more about the work of our armed forces and show our respect to those who have served or continue to serve.
