Tree planting for festivities
Christmas celebrations in Dudley borough are going green, with 12 trees having been permanently planted in central locations across the borough this week.
The 12 Christmas trees, which are being paid for through community forum funding, will help to make celebrations more environmentally and financially sustainable for the future.
They add to five Christmas trees already permanently planted and maintained by the local authority,
Community funding will also help to pay for Christmas events in the five main town centres as well as decorations and lights.
There will still be cut trees in four borough locations that are not suitable for permanent planting.
Councillor Paul Bradley, deputy leader of Dudley Council, said:
“Although it is spring, we are already planning for our Christmas events, which bring communities together to celebrate and are a welcome boost to footfall for our traders.
“We have 12 permanently planted rooted trees in place now. These trees will not only enhance our public spaces, but will also support biodiversity, improve air quality, and serve as a long-term, eco-conscious alternative for future seasonal displays.”
Christmas switch on events will take place in Halesowen on 15 November, Brierley Hill and Stourbridge on 22 November, Sedgley on 23 November and Dudley on 6 December.
