Turn your change into action for rough sleepers
Residents are reminded they can help people less fortunate this winter by donating through an online giving platform.
All the donations raised through Change into Action, a Dudley Council initiative in partnership with West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), will go to helping people who are at risk or are already homeless.
Since the scheme started almost £7,000 has been donated and used to buy essential items such as beds and cookers to give people a real chance of setting up and sustaining their new long-term home. People are asked to donate to the scheme rather than giving money directly to people on the street.
If residents are aware that someone is experiencing homelessness or is at risk of homelessness, Dudley Council’s partner organisation Street Support West Midlands can also connect to organisations that can help.
Councillor Ian Bevan, cabinet member for housing and communities, said:
“In the short term our aim is to provide rough sleepers with a safe and secure place to stay off the streets, and by giving to Change into Action we can ensure that the money goes to services that can help to make this happen.
“Ultimately we want to work with people to enable them to gain the skills they need to move on to independent living, and where necessary we can support people with particular needs such as mental health issues, offending behaviour and drug and alcohol use.”
If you are concerned about someone sleeping rough in the Dudley borough then please call 0300 555 2345 and the council’s outreach team will make contact with them.
