Union flag flying at Council House to mark King’s birthday
The Union flag is flying from Dudley Council House to mark the King’s birthday.
His Majesty is 77 today.
The order to fly the flag came from the leader of Dudley Council, Councillor Patrick Harley, who last week urged residents to “fly the flag and fly it proud”.
Councillor Pete Lee, the Mayor of Dudley, said:
“The Union flag has a deep, historical link with the monarchy, as it was originally created by royal decree to symbolise the personal union of the crowns of England and Scotland.
“I agreed with the leader it was therefore very fitting that we flew the flag today to mark the 77th birthday of His Royal Highness.
“On behalf of the council, I would like to wish the King many happy returns.”
