Virtual composting
Green fingered residents are encouraged to down tools and log on to a virtual composting session this month.
The free live online tutorial is is led by Garden Organic, the National Charity for Organic Growing. They have over 60 years’ experience of organic growing and composting and run regular online tutorials to help people get the most out of their garden, organically.
In the session participants will learn about the benefits of composting to both garden and the environment, how the composting process works, how to compost at home, what can go in a home compost bin and the different types of bins available. They will also be running through their most frequently asked questions and troubleshooting common problems.
People can join with their cameras off or on and the hosts are happy to answer any questions about the composting process.
The session will be held on Zoom and starts at 1pm on Thursday 30 July. The session runs until around 2.30pm, but that includes the Q&A element. Email David.hamlin@dudley.gov.uk to take part and receive the link.
Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for environmental, highways and street services, said:
We’ve definitely seen an increase in people composting at home over shut down and have made sure that we’ve continued to offer our residents access to discounted compost bins during this time.
Composting is a really easy and simple way of reducing your carbon footprint and making the most of your garden and other organic waste, with the added bonus of producing a nourishing end product for your garden.
I hope that our residents take up the offer of this free online session to help them make the most of their gardens over the summer and for the future
