Coronation - mayor with residents

Visitors watch coronation live screening

Himley Hall and Park welcomed visitors today to watch a live screening of King Charles III’s coronation.

People braved the rain to watch the historic occasion with family and friends in the grounds of the prestigious Dudley Council run park.

Families were also able to take part in a coronation themed trail around the park and pick up treats from the Himley Hall Coffee Lounge.

The Mayor of Dudley, Sue Greenaway, said:
The weather may have let us down today, but it certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of all those who came together to watch the coronation of King Charles III live on the big screen.
It was wonderful to see people celebrate in the grounds of the historic park, which has its own Royal connections, having once hosted members of the Royal family.
I hope everyone continues to enjoy the rest of the weekend’s celebrations, particularly those hosting street parties across the borough.
Kay Cross, Wordsley resident, said:
We were determined to come today despite the weather, and we have loved every minute. It’s fantastic as we had front row seats.

The festivities will continue on Sunday and Monday (May 7 and 8) with a coronation themed children’s activity trail at the Red House Glass Cone in Wordsley. Tickets can be booked online at https://www.dudley.gov.uk/events/the-kings-hats-trail

Dudley Council House and buildings at Dudley Zoo and Castle will be lit up in red, white and blue over the weekend to commemorate the occasion.

People can also join in The Big Help Out, which begins this weekend. There are several volunteering opportunities coming up in the borough, including a Dudley Canal clean-up on Monday and first aid training with St John’s Ambulance on Tuesday evening. More details on The Big Help Out can be found at https://app.thebighelpout.com/

Residents who attended the screening, a street party, or another community event are encouraged to send pictures of themselves celebrating the coronation to capa.events@dudley.gov.uk for inclusion in the council’s online photo gallery.
