There’s no need for youngsters to be bored over the Whitsun holidays with lots of fun to be had at Dudley borough leisure centres during half term.
Duncan Edwards, Crystal and Halesowen leisure centres and The Dell Stadium have plenty of activities to entertain the kids, including free swimming, £1 football sessions, and soft play areas.
All Dudley borough residents aged 16 and under can enjoy free swimming at the three leisure centres from Saturday 27 May to Sunday 4 June. People can find out more online at www.freeswimindudley.co.uk.
Family fun disability swims will be held at Duncan Edwards on Wednesday 31 May, 3.10 to 5pm, at Crystal on Friday 2 June, 2 to 4pm, and Halesowen on Saturday 27 May and 3 June, 2.30 to 3.45pm. Free swimming offer applies for the sessions.
Crystal is offering families the chance to attend a later family swimming session on Tuesday 30 May, 5 to 8pm, and there will be a fun float session on Saturday 3 June, noon to 1pm, at Duncan Edwards. Normal admission prices apply to the fun float session.
Crystal Leisure Centre will run its new Waikiki Waves session, which takes place every Friday from 6 to 8pm in the leisure pool. The disco is exclusively for families, with music from a DJ and bodyboards provided at no extra cost.
At the Dell Stadium, children aged eight and over can enjoy a kickabout on the 3G football pitch for just £1 each, or £2 for over 16s. Holiday sessions run from Tuesday 30 May to Friday 2 June, 9am to 4pm and term time from Monday to Friday, 3 to 5pm. Appropriate football boots must be worn, and people are asked to bring their own footballs. The stadium will be closed Bank Holiday Monday (29 May).
Table-tennis and badminton is available at Duncan Edwards and Crystal throughout the holiday for children aged eight years and above, with equipment available to hire.
The brand-new Planet Play areas at Duncan Edwards and Halesowen will offer soft play for children up to the age of 11. Crystal’s soft play facility will also be open for children aged seven and under. Parents are advised to call ahead to check opening times and availability.
Councillor Paul Bradley, deputy leader, communities and economic delivery, said:
We all know the huge benefits young people get from keeping active and enjoying sport, which is why we are committed to offering activities in our leisure centres during school holidays.
Our free swimming remains very popular and will be subject to availability. As always, we’re reminding people who have not previously registered that they must do so before their visit.
Young people must be supervised by a responsible adult aged 18 or over to enjoy the free-swimming offer. Children under the age of eight must be accompanied in the water by an adult or responsible person over 18 years of age. One adult must accompany no more than two children under the age of eight into the swimming pool. People who have not previously registered for free swimming must do so at www.freeswimindudley.co.uk before their visit. Numbers are limited and entry will be on a first come first served basis.
