Children enjoy Himley event

Young children enjoy drive-in movies

Pre-schoolers have been treated to a day of drive-in cinema fun at Himley Hall and Park today as part of a series of films being screened there this week.

Eleven movies are being screened over four themed days. Today kicked off the events with children’s films and will conclude with an evening screening of the family favourite Mamma Mia.

Tomorrow (June 25) there will be romcom favourites with Dirty Dancing and Pretty Woman being screened.

The weekend cranks up with car themes on Saturday June 26. The morning starts with the animated film, Cars followed by the all-time classic ‘Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang’. Mini Club enthusiasts will be visiting the site and watching during the afternoon with screenings of the two versions of The Italian Job, firstly starting with the remake film of 2003 starring Mark Wahlberg and ending the day with the true classic 1969 version starring Michael Caine.

As the council is unable to hold the usual Armed Forces Day to Himley Hall this year, due to Covid-19, they are then screening two military films to mark the day instead on Sunday June 27 with the Stephen Spielberg-directed War Horse followed by the classic The Great Escape.

Councillor Simon Phipps, cabinet member responsible for halls, said:

As the restrictions for the pandemic are being lifted, we have put together these fun drive-in events.
To keep people feeling safe, visitors can watch from the comfort of their own car or in the allocated space at the side for picnic deckchairs.

As the films are all shown on a massive 100 square metre screen, viewers can tune their car radio in to hear the audio from the film.

A selection of street food vendors will be at the event or guests can bring along their own snacks and drinks to enjoy whilst watching the film. All cars will be spaced in 5 metre squares to comply with social distancing measures to make the event safe and enjoyable.

Himley Hall and Park Drive-in cinema, in association with K2 Security, tickets are only available online from Eventbrite via www.himleyhallandpark.co.uk and cost £20 per car plus £3.00 for each individual in the car.
