Youngsters given road safety boost
Dudley borough pupils set to move up to secondary schools this year are receiving road safety tips to help them prepare.
Dudley Council’s road safety team is visiting primary schools across the borough to deliver the transition training sessions.
The sessions have been put in place as the highest number of accidents involving child pedestrians occurs within the 11 to 12 age group.
It’s hoped they will prepare school pupils for travelling to secondary school independently, covering a range of topics such as pedestrian and driver distractions, stopping distances and safer places to cross.
Councillor Damian Corfield, cabinet member for highways and environmental services, said:
It’s vital that we do all we can to help keep youngsters safe as they make the big transition from primary to secondary school.
More than 97 per cent of the Borough’s primary schools have booked to receive a transition training session for their year six pupils before the end of the summer term, with over 2300 pupils having already received the training so far.
I would like to wish all our youngsters well and hope the training is helpful for their journey ahead.
