Cabinet member thanks school staff
Dudley Council’s cabinet member for children’s services has praised schools, teachers and other members of the school communities for continuing to work throughout the pandemic.
Dudley borough schools, like others across the country, are continuing to operate despite the increased pressures and demands of covid-19.
Teachers, management teams, governors and support staff have continued to work wherever possible since schools reopened in September.
Schools have also put in place new ways for children to access remote learning for times when individuals, bubbles and year groups need to isolate due to cases.
Some schools are also giving back to their local communities and helping those most in need. At Pegasus Academy, students are supporting a local food bank for people made unemployed or furloughed during the pandemic. Meanwhile at Kingswinford Academy students have found a new way of engaging with their community, by using their technological know-how to create a virtual choir and orchestra for their annual Christmas Carol concert.
Councillor Ruth Buttery, cabinet member for children’s services, said:
“As we move into a second lockdown, coronavirus continues to test our communities and we know this has had an impact on our children and young people.
‘We all need to work together in these challenging times and I am proud to see that, despite the issues they have faced themselves, the young people in our schools are setting a wonderful example.
“Dudley Council is determined to help children and young people continue with their education and working together with our partners, we are helping our children to stay in school where they belong and I want to take this chance to thank everyone working in schools, as well as pupils, parents and carers, for playing their role in this vital work.
“We have now reinstated our Covid Support Line which will help people during the lockdown, the Christmas holiday break and beyond. Families will be able to get the advice and support they need as well as help with essential food supplies.
“Together we continue to create a bright future for all our children.”
